Key Considerations for Buying a Water Tank:

  • Material: Plastic tanks are budget-friendly and lightweight, but consider UV resistance. Metal tanks are sturdy, but prone to rust. Concrete tanks are durable but expensive and difficult to install.
  • Capacity: Aim for 150 litres per person daily. So for a family of four though a 700 litre water tank is enough, it is better to have 1000 litres water tank to give some buffer. Popular choices include:
    • 500 litre water tank price starts from ₹3,750.
    • 1000 litre water tank price starts from ₹9,200.
    • 2000 litre water tank price  starts from ₹15,300.
  • Layers: Single, double, or triple? Triple and Four layers offer superior insulation and durability, but cost more.
  • Brand: Choose reputable brands like Supreme, Ashirvad, and Astral that offer warranties.

Some Personal Thoughts

When there was a drought in Brisbane, the city council placed restriction to used 240 litres of water per person. Our council rates bill mentioned the average daily usage. And we were less than 200 litres/person.

When I wonder why it is 150 litres in India, I presume it is mainly because we don't use a shower and use a 25 litre bucket of water to bath. A shower discharges 7 litres of water a minute. Even if we take a quick shower for 5 minutes that is 125 litres. 5 times more than a bucket.

Considering this Indians lead a more sustainable lifestyle. Your thoughts?
How much water do you think you use in a day?
